‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Gam in the Prophetic Discourse

Gam as a marker of the result text unit of the prophetic announcement (PA) occurs in the judgmeent speech, hence it is a marker of the announcement of punishment which connotes the negative reciprocity fairness from the part of Yahweh. It takes initial position in a sentence and is followed independent first person pronoun; in most cases it is preceded by the conjunction wə. PA with gam + independent personal pronoun belongs to the style of exilic-postexilic prophets, who are familiar with the fully conceptualized idea of the covenant – reciprocal relationship between Yahweh and his people. This usage of gam in Ezekiel, other propetic books and Proverbs is probably influenced by the language of the Holiness Code (Lev 26).
