At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Formal Concept Lattices as Semantic Maps

Ch. 10. P. 78–87.
Ryzhova D., Obiedkov S.

In this paper, we present an application for formal concept analysis (FCA) by showing how it can help construct a semantic map for a lexical typological study. We show that FCA captures typological regularities, so that concept lattices automatically built from linguistic data appear to be even more informative than traditional semantic maps. While sometimes this informativeness causes unreadability of a map, in other cases, it opens up new perspectives in the field, such as the opportunity to analyze the relationship between direct and figurative lexical meanings.

Parkhomenko V., Kulikova S., Buzmakov A. V., Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics 2026 Vol. 47 No. 6 P. 2979–2992
The stability of formal concepts and its generalization as robustness are considered in the paper. We use an approximation of stability in the form of Δ-measure for fast calculations. A computationally efficient method for calculating robustness based on subcontexts is presented. We also present a new method to analytically evaluate the number of preimages for ...

Копылова Е. В., Лапшина К. М., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana. Труды института лингвистических исследований 2026 № 22 С. 284–307
The article presents a lexico-typological description of the verbs of change in Karelian within a frame-based approach. The data was gained from dictionaries and corpora or elicited from native speakers, including bilinguals with Finnish. To reveal cross-linguistic influence, Karelian data is compared to Finnish within seven frames: Modification, Switching, Non-referential replacement, Referential replacement, Substitution, Compensation, and Exchange. As a ...

The article addresses verbs of the semantic field of change in Serbian which is covered by various derivates of the Proto-Slavic *-měn. Starting with perfective verbs of change (izmeniti, promeniti, zameniti, smeniti, razmeniti etc.), the article moves to imperfective verbs, separately discussing verbs prefixed with iz-. While the perfective verb izmeniti is primarily used to ...

This article investigates the semantic field of ‘change’ in Persian from a lexical-typological perspective, applying the frame-based approach of the Moscow Lexical Typology Group. The study examines over 20 verbs related to this field, relying on data from dictionaries, corpora, and native speaker elicitation. In Persian, this semantic zone is primarily serviced by compound verbs. Our analysis reveals that the ...

The article examines lexification of the semantic domains of searching and finding based on a sample of 25+ languages. First, it discusses the semantic parameters underlying lexical oppositions within each of the domains (e.g., type of the subject and referentiality of the object, for searching; intentionality and animacy of the object, for finding). Second, it ...

This article describes verbs denoting motion of liquid and dry substances in Slavic languages. The research explores how Slavic languages lexicalize different situations within the semantic field of substance motion and identifies the parameters that drive this lexicalization (e.g., type of substance, intensity and quantization of flow, and causation). Adjacent grammatical phenomena such as argument ...

Матюхина Е. П., Сапронов А. В., Lander Y., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana.

The article is dedicated to the morphosyntactic properties and grammatical functions of the Shughni marker -ard. Shughni, like many other Iranian languages, has a reduced case system that seems to be gradually evolving and expanding. We demonstrate that the marker -ard is one of the main candidates for the status of a new case marker ...

The article examines Russian verbs of disappearance analyzing their semantic and syntactic properties. These verbs are classified as “underdetermined predicates” similar to verbs of hiding and searching as they do not specify the exact process of disappearance only indicating its result. Unlike verbs of searching and hiding, verbs of disappearance do not describe associated processes ...

Recovery degree constrained equiconcept/pseudo-equiconcept reduction in symmetric formal contexts
Junyu B., Fei H., Huilin F. et al., International Journal of Approximate Reasoning 2025 Vol. 187 Article 109541
In Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), concept reduction serves as an important means of simplification. The application scenarios of concept reduction cover various aspects such as data mining, knowledge discovery, strategic decision-making, and rule learning. For symmetric formal contexts, a specialized class of concept reduction exists that can fully recover all knowledge. However, most existing concept ...

Clustering aims at finding disjoint groups of similar objects in data and is one major task in Machine Learning. It is also gaining more attention in Formal Concept Analysis community in these last years. This paper proposes an original approach to the clustering of complex data based on Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) and Pattern Structures. ...

О принципах глагольной колексификации
Rakhilina E. V., Ryzhova D., Вопросы языкознания 2025 № 2 С. 7–25
The paper is devoted to the basic principles of verbal colexification defined at the cross-linguistic level. We understand colexification as a non-random association of two or more meanings within one and the same lexical item. We argue that these associations, reproducing in different languages, should follow certain principles and form clear patterns. Drawing on our extensive experience of ...

Лапшина К. М., Копылова Е. В., Матюхина Е. П., Урало-алтайские исследования 2024 № 1(52) С. 22–41
This paper focuses on the main verbs of change in Finnish — muuttaa, vaihtaa and korvata and their frequentative derivatives. The verbs are analysed within the frame-based approach to lexical typology, which suggests that a semantic field can be divided into several situation types, or frames. Lexemes map differently onto the frames in the world’s ...
