Глаголы падения в лексико-типологической перспективе

This paper describes the lexico-typological frames in the semantic field of falling, i.e. we list the parameters which differentiate between various verbs of falling. By the verbs of falling we mean the predicates which denote the concept of falling in their primary meaning, i.e. uncontrollable move from a higher place or position without contact with surface. Among the differentiating parameters one can mention the starting point, the finish point, the kind of subject which falls (men, animated or unanimated objects, liquids and powders), the manner of falling (straight, on the side), etc. We introduce the results of the analysis of the concerned domain in several languages including Russian, English, Estonian, Udmurt, Japanese, Yiddish and Indonesian. The paper also describes an online database with graph interface which vizualizes our data.
