HSE Researchers Show How Congenital Motor Disorders Affect Brain Development
Researchers from HSE University’s Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have synthesised the findings of their previous studies on brain development in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis. Their analysis shows that impaired motor function in early childhood not only limits children’s motor experience but also affects memory, categorical thinking, and information processing. The study has been published in Frontiers in Psychology.

Window into the Body: Scientists Develop Neural Network to Detect Risk of 15 Diseases from Retinal Images
Russian universities, with the participation of HSE University, Sber, and Z-union, have developed a neural network that can simultaneously assess the risk of 15 types of pathology from retinal photographs, including not only eye diseases but also cardiovascular conditions. The AI system can help clinicians detect potentially concerning changes at an early stage, identify signs reflecting the condition of retinal blood vessels, and determine whether a patient may need further examination. The paper has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

'We Did Not Limit the Time for Questions'
The International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-Scale Analysis at HSE University held a major conference on molecular dynamics. Participants had the opportunity to attend all the presentations, while speakers were given as much time as they needed to answer questions. The HSE News Service interviewed Grigory Smirnov, Head of the Laboratory, and Genri Norman, Chief Research Fellow, about the conference preparations and the discussions it generated.

A Method of Static and Dynamic Pattern Analysis of Innovative Development of Russian Regions in the Long Run

Ch. 1. P. 1–8.
Aleskerov F. T., Egorova L., Gokhberg L., Myachin A. L., Sagieva G. S.

The term “pattern” refers to a combination of values of some features such that objects with these feature values significantly differ from other objects. This concept is a useful tool for the analysis of behavior of objects in both statics and dynamics. If the panel data describing the functioning of objects in time is available, we can analyze pattern changing behavior of the objects and identify either well adapted to the environment objects or objects with unusual and alarming behavior. In this paper we apply static and dynamic pattern analysis to the analysis of innovative development of the Russian regions in the long run and obtain a classification of regions by the similarity of the internal structure of these indicators and groups of regions carrying out similar strategies.

Bibliometric Analysis by Network Models
Aleskerov F. T., Khutorskaya O., Stepochkina A. et al., Springer, 2026.
The book contains new models of bibliometric analysis based on centrality measures in network analysis, pattern analysis and stability analysis. A distinctive feature of these centrality measures is that they account for the parameters of vertices and group influence of vertices to a vertex. This reveals specific groups of publications, authors, terms, journals and affiliations ...

Chebanova D., Poretskova A., Journal of International Migration and Integration 2026 Vol. 27 No. 3 P. 1629–1653
This article examines young people’s regional and political identities after relocating from four Russian regions to Central Russia’s megalopolises, exploring how these identities interact and how relocation contexts shape this process. Grounded in an interpretivist paradigm and using phenomenological analysis, the study analyses lived experiences through in-depth interviews, resulting in an empirical model of identity ...

Methodological Foundations of Validation and Quality Assessment of Pattern Analysis Results
Alexey Myachin, Studies in Systems, Decision and Control 2025 Vol. 615 P. 12–20
In this paper, we introduce a refined and rigorous methodological framework for the validation and quality assessment of pattern analysis outcomes. Our approach synergistically integrates a formal algorithmic model with novel conceptual constructs - specifically, the notions of the empty pattern and pattern complexity. A comprehensive array of metric approaches is employed to evaluate pattern analysis ...

A Method for Improving the Accuracy of Regression Models Based on Ordinal-Invariant Pattern Clustering
Alexey Myachin, Procedia Computer Science 2025 Vol. 266 P. 1330–1335
An agglomerative pattern analysis algorithm is presented that groups objects using ordinal-invariant pattern clustering, with the goal of maximizing the coefficient of determination. Key stages are described: constructing initial pattern pattern by grouping objects according to permutations of feature values; computing centroids and variances; and defining a merge criterion based on the maximal increase in ...

B. V. Nikitin, N. Yu. Zamyatina, Regional Research of Russia 2023 Vol. 13 No. 2 P. 271–286
Studies of the COVID-19 pandemic have repeatedly demonstrated that the role of spatial factors in the transmission of infection is significant. However, there is no universal spatial model thoroughly describing COVID-19 spread patterns. The paper proposes an original view on the centre-periphery model: regions are classified according to settlement pattern (static component) and openness (closedness) ...

Finding Structurally Similar Objects Based on Data Sorting Methods
Myachin A. L., , in: Intelligent Computing: Proceedings of the 2022 Computing Conference, Volume 1.: Springer, 2022. P. 826–835.
We present methods for finding patterns using sorting algorithms. Two modifications of diffusion-invariant pattern clustering are proposed, which allow finding structurally similar objects under study. The proposed modifications allow you to reduce the time spent on searching for templates, which allows you to work with big datasets. It assumes endogenous quantification and distribution of income ...
