'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

Average Connection Establishment Time in Random Access Channel with Limited Resources

IEEE, 2024.
Батыгин А. А., Бурков А. А., Tyurlikov A.

In 4G and 5G cellular networks, a 4-step random access procedure is used. A significant challenge arises when a large number of users attempt to connect within a short period of time. To address this issue, the access class barring mechanism is employed. There are numerous studies that analyze the average connection time for users within the random access framework that includes access class barring. However, these studies primarily offer approximate calculations for the average connection time. In this work, the connection process is modeled using a Markov chain. The problem of calculating the average connection time is reduced to finding the average time to reach an absorbing state. An iterative algorithm is proposed to compute the exact value of this metric both for a system using the access class barring mechanism and without its use. It is demonstrated that, under certain conditions, the approximate calculations presented in other works significantly underestimate the average connection time.In 4G and 5G cellular networks, a 4-step random access procedure is used. Polarization of opinions in the group: a modeling algorithm considering the dynamics of social bonds
Chebotarev V., Andreyuk D., Elizarova Anastasiya et al., Procedia Computer Science 2022 Vol. 213 No. C P. 596–601
The dynamics of opinion in a group are of interest for a number of practical purposes. In particular, consensus helps and polarization of opinions hinders cohesive teamwork. Existing approaches for modeling opinion dynamics mostly do not take into account the dynamism of social relations in a group. This paper proposes an algorithm and a program ...

Stable On-the-Fly Learning for Dynamic Neural Networks With Delayed Inputs
Chertopolokhov V., Mukhamedov A., Bugriy G. et al., IEEE Access 2026 Vol. 14 P. 14369–14392
This study presents on-the-fly identification and multi-step prediction of nonlinear systems with delayed inputs using a dynamic neural network combined with a smooth projection onto ellipsoids. The projection enforces parameter constraints that guarantee stability, while a Lyapunov–Krasovskii analysis yields computable ultimate error bounds. Riccati-type matrix inequalities are derived, providing an efficient vectorization–projection–devectorization implementation suitable for ...

Monakhova E., Monakhov O., Edward R. Rzaev et al., IEEE Access 2025 Vol. 13 P. 104716–104727
Based on the analysis of a large dataset for optimal undirected double-loop networks, we studied the problem of finding families of optimal double-loop graphs with the minimal possible diameter. Optimal double-loop networks are of practical interest as graph models for reliable, low-delay communication in computer systems and networks-on-chip, due to their advantageous networking properties. Tekic A., Tekic Z., Journal of Business Research 2025 Vol. 197 Article 115444
Entrepreneurial ecosystems, as spatially bounded resource allocation systems, are vital for the growth and scale-up of new ventures by facilitating access to financial, human, and social resources, which are considered to be essential for fostering Schumpeterian entrepreneurship. However, there is significant heterogeneity in resource endowments of high-impact ecosystems, challenging the prevailing thesis in entrepreneurial ecosystem ...
