Spatiotemporal dynamics in the bi-layer memristive Morris-Lecar neurons with different obstacles

In press

We report spiral-wave transitions in the memristive Morris-Lecar neuron model with differently structured obstacles
in single and bilayer configurations. Wave propagation is initiated by applying an external periodic stimulus to the
left-side nodes of the excitable media. During interactions with obstacles, rich spiral patterns emerge in both single-layer and bilayer configurations across various amplitudes and frequencies of the external stimulus, as well as for different diffusion coefficients. The spatio-energy is also calculated to demonstrate the existence of a spiral core within stable spiral waves. The statistical synchronization factor is computed over a range of diffusion coefficients to assess the presence of spiral waves and the absence of instabilities. Building on these single-layer dynamics, we then investigate multilayer effects by extending our study to a bilayer system, with one layer containing obstacles. We observe the transition of spiral waves between the layers across these various stimulus parameters, as well as for different intralayer coupling coefficients. Finally, the trend of synchronization between the two layers is investigated using the spatial interlayer synchronization error across a range of interlayer coupling strengths. The important findings of the present study are discussed in the conclusion.

Linear dependencies, polynomial factors in the Duke–Erdős forbidden sunflower problem
Kupavskii A., Noskov F., Forum of Mathematics, Sigma 2026 Vol. 14 Article 124
We call a family of $s$ sets $\{F_1, \ldots, F_s\}$ a sunflower with $s$ petals if, for any distinct $i, j \in [s]$, one has $F_i \cap F_j = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$. The set $C = \cap_{u = 1}^s F_u$ is called the {\it core} of the sunflower. It is a classical result of ...

Effects of Elevation Changes and Multilevel Structures on Vehicular Signal Propagation
Stepanyants V., Andrey V. Fizulin, Chibirov A. et al., FUTURE TRANSPORTATION 2026 Vol. 6 No. 5 Article 225
Reliable Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) evaluation requires propagation models that represent terrain and multilevel infrastructure. Most integrated vehicular simulators still rely on planar models, but the magnitude of the resulting bias is unclear. This study quantitatively compares flattened two-dimensional (2D) and terrain-aware three-dimensional (3D) variants of three scenarios using identical Sionna RT settings. The pipeline combines OpenStreetMap ...

This paper investigates the theoretical limits of object detection within isotropic scattering media using single-photon lidar. Within a simplified model, we derive the fundamental relationship between the maximum attainable detection range and the required photon count per pulse. Two distinct limiting regimes are analyzed: the ballistic photon regime, which maintains high spatial resolution but necessitates ...

Didenkulova E., Chugunov V., Didenkulova I., Wave Motion 2026 Vol. 147 Article 103787
This work presents a new analytical solution of the shallow water theory for cylindrical propagation of long tsunami-like waves in the basin of variable depth. Considered model cases are related to tsunami wave propagation from an asteroid fallen into the sea, or from underwater volcanic eruptions. The corresponding bottom geometries represent radially symmetric obstacles such ...

Flamarion M., Didenkulova E., Pelinovsky E., Physics Letters A 2026 Vol. 598 Article 132218
In this letter, bipolar solitary wave interactions in the Schamel equation are revisited numerically. Two simulation settings are considered: repeated collisions in a periodic domain, and the interaction of a positive solitary wave with a train of negative polarity solitary waves of equal amplitude. In the first case, when the amplitudes are comparable, the larger ...

Modulational Instability and Wave Dynamics in the Rotated Modified Gardner–Whitham Equation
Flamarion M. V., Pelinovsky E., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2026 Vol. 213 No. 2 Article 119245
This article concerns the study of modulational instability in the rotated-modified Gardner–Whitham (rmGW) equation. This model incorporates both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, similarly to the Gardner equation, while also retaining the fully dispersive character of the Whitham equation together with a large-scale dispersive term analogous to that in the Ostrovsky equation. Using a classical multiple-scale asymptotic expansion, we ...

Automated Ranking of Soybean Plots from Close-Range RGB Video via Depth Filtering and Point-Based Counting
Groshev Maksim, Rybakov Petr, Teterin N. et al., Sensors 2026 Article 6171
Manual assessment of soybean yield components, such as pod number, is laborious, time-consuming, and subjective. Existing computer-vision approaches based on object detection or instance segmentation perform poorly on close-range RGB imagery of soybean canopies due to severe occlusions, ambiguous plant boundaries, and the high cost of bounding-box annotation. To address these challenges, we propose a ...

Dual role of Poisson impulses in Hindmarsh–Rose networks: Disorder, pattern formation, and synchronization
Ramazanov I., Bukh A., Shepelev Igor A., Chaos 2026 No. 36 P. 083150–083150
We investigate how stochastic Poisson impulsive forcing influences the spatiotemporal dynamics of a two-dimensional network of Hindmarsh–Rose neurons. Unlike continuous noise, impulsive forcing introduces discrete, state-dependent perturbations, making the system response highly sensitive to both the statistics and the spatial structure of the input. In most of the parameter space, stochastic impulses destabilize the initial ...

First, we explore ...

In the manuscript, we report the dynamics of the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy memristor-based hidden system via sampled-data control. For an open-loop formulation, the system dynamics are studied. We found extreme events, hidden attractors, and trivial period doubling scenarios and confirmed them through numerical, analytical, statistical and experimental analyses. Furthermore, to enable stability analysis and control ...

Dynamics analysis and fractional-order nonlinearity system via memristor-based Chua oscillator
S Sabarathinam, Viktor Papov, Wang Z. et al., Pramana - Journal of Physics 2023 Vol. 97 No. 3 Article 107
This article discusses the utilisation of a Chua oscillator with a memristor to produce chaos with minimal nonlinearity. The memristor, a device that changes its flux or charges over time, has its nonlinear strength altered fractionally to determine the lowest-order memristor nonlinearity for generating chaos. An experimental analog circuit in real-time has been constructed. A ...

Resonant activation of resistive switching in ZrO2(Y) films
Ryabova M. A., Filatov D. O., Koryazhkina M. N. et al., , in: Journal of Physics: Conference Series, Vol. 1851Vol. 1851. Issue 1.: IOP Publishing, 2021. Ch. 012003 P. 1–6.
Local resistive switching (RS) in ZrO2(Y) films on conductive substrates has been studied using Conductive Atomic Force Microscopy (CAFM). Switching was performed by triangle voltage pulses with superimposed a high-frequency (HF) sinusoidal signal applied to the contact of the CAFM probe to the ZrO2(Y) film (together constituting a nanometer-sized virtual memristor). Earlier, the enhancement of ...

We propose a stochastic model of a voltage controlled bipolar memristive system, which includes the properties of widely used dynamic SPICE models and takes into account the fluctuations inherent in memristors. The proposed model is described by rather simple equations of Brownian diffusion, does not require significant computational resources for numerical modeling, and allows obtaining the exact analytical solutions ...

O. Dogonasheva, Kasatkin D., Boris Gutkin et al., Chaos 2022 Vol. 32 No. 10 Article 101101
Over the past decades, one of the most exciting and fast developed area of modern synchronization theory is the study of chimera states. Such chimera states states are characterized by the coexistence of multiple synchronous and asynchronous domains, despite that the network topology does not at all predict such structures. Moreover, these states are of  interest ...
