Трансформация образа сада в творчестве художников Брюгге XV – начала XVI веков
In early Netherlandish painting, the garden image was associated with the representation of paradise, as well as with the monastic practice of cultivating a garden, which existed since the era of early Christianity. In addition, since the appearance of the first chivalric novels, the garden has been associated with the search for a love object. Such tendency is clearly manifested in the famous “Romance of the Rose”, which had a strong influence on the culture of the Duchy of Burgundy. At the beginning of the 15th century, we can observe the formation of the concept of the garden image in the van Eyck and Christus’ paintings, and then in the last third of the 15th – early 16 th centuries we can note the transformation of the garden image in the altarpieces of Memling, David, Provost. The author hypothesizes about the factors that influenced the garden image both as part of secular culture and as a representation of Eden in the works of Bruges artists in the 15 th – early 16 th centuries.
