Художественный метод как объект хранения: актуальные подходы к сохранению медиаискусства
The article addresses the challenge of archiving media art in the era of digital transformation of cultural and artistic institutions. The author examines contemporary approaches to preserving media artworks in the context of gradual obsolescence of the original technologies used to create them. The study focuses on preservation methods for media art objects, which involve not only safeguarding the physical medium but also documenting the creative method of artwork production. This documentation enables the current owner to later reproduce the work on a different medium. The author analyses the experience of leading art institutions, particularly the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. In 2018, the museum developed a special regulation for accepting and storing its media art collection, which today forms part of its main holdings. The article emphasizes the importance of creating accounting systems that store information about works independently of the physical medium and record information about the author's creative method, technical requirements, and conditions for reproducing the work. Such systems ensure that artworks can be preserved for future generations even if the original technologies become obsolete. The author demonstrates that, in this context, the artistic method becomes an independent object of preservation alongside the artwork itself. The practical significance of this research is supported by examples of successfully preserved works by pioneers of media art as well as contemporary pieces.
