К вопросу об общепринятых оценках исторических персоналий: на примере историографических оценок деятельности Мин Ёнъика
The paper aims to reevaluate the historiographic assessments of the activities of the influential diplomat and politician of the late 19th – early 20th centuries Min Yŏngik (민영익 / 閔泳翊, 1860–1914). Min, who led the’s (Korea) first diplomatic delegation to the West (1883, to the USA) and became one of the main targets of the rebels during the Kapsin Coup (December 4-6, 1884), is unanimously characterized by historians as a "pro-Chinese" politician, whose activities were guided by his family – the ambitious Min clan. In an attempt to challenge this historiographic characterization, the author of this paper will present and analyze the earliest discovered historical evidence describing Min Yŏngik as a "pro-Chinese" dignitary and compare it with evidence from other primary sources. After which a conclusion will be made about the validity of the assertion about Min Yŏngik’s "pro-Chinese" political orientation.
