‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Влияние личных факторов на изменение стратегических намерений малых предпринимателей в условиях экзогенных шоков: анализ лонгитюдных данных

Мониторинг общественного мнения: Экономические и социальные перемены. 2025. № 4. С. 175–201.
Pashkov S., Chepurenko A., Егорова А. И.

This article analyzes the impact of changes in motivation and the evaluation of business conditions on the strategic intentions of small business owners in the context of external shocks. The empirical basis of the study is drawn from the FOM Small Business Longitudinal Survey (initiated in 2021, initial N = 768 individuals). The analytical methodology employs generalized estimating equations (GEE) to fully account for the effects of panel data.

The study reveals that for the majority of respondents, motivation remains stable, although their assessments of the external environment and business performance exhibit slight variability. Changes in motivation, whether from opportunity to necessity or vice versa, are not necessarily driven by changes in current business income but are strongly associated with the evaluation of the overall economic situation. A deterioration in the economic environment may lead to a shift in motivation from opportunity to necessity, whereas improvements can trigger a shift from necessity to opportunity motivation. Changes in motivation in both directions influence entrepreneurs’ strategic intentions, with a significantly stronger effect observed for negative transitions (from opportunity to necessity motivation). An increase in business income has a significant positive effect on changes in entrepreneurs’ strategic intentions, while a decline in income exerts a significant negative effect.

This study is the first to establish a link between changes in business owners’ strategic intentions and their assessments of changing business conditions, current income levels, and owners’ education.]

Kilinc-Ata N., Warong M. M., SN Business & Economics 2026 Vol. 6 Article 326(2026)
Green transitions are widely expected to attract cleaner capital and accelerate decarbonization; however, emerging-economy evidence increasingly challenges this assumption. This study examines the dynamic relationship between energy transition indicators and capital inflows in BRICS+ economies over the period 1996–2022, explicitly testing the “Green Haven” hypothesis under conditions of global uncertainty. Unlike much of the existing ...
