Институциональное поле социологии потребления: обзор международных научных центров, ассоциаций и журналов
The study of the institutional structure of the sociology of consumption has become increasingly important due to the growing role of consumption in contemporary societies. Understanding the structure and organization of this field helps to identify key actors who produce scientific knowledge and to define dominant research themes. This review examines the activities of international research centers, associations, and journals that play a significant role in the development of the sociology of consumption. A total of 49 international research centers from more than 10 countries were selected, along with 7 academic journals and 8 Russian research centers. The selection was based on the centers’ activity and involvement in the international academic community, with an evaluation of their publications and projects from 2018 to 2022. Through content analysis, eight relevant themes in the sociology of consumption were identified. While Western centers are actively developing new directions such as sustainable consumption and digitalization, in Russia these topics remain under-researched and lack sufficient academic representation. The study also highlights the fragmented and interdisciplinary nature of the sociology of consumption.
