Путешествие как откровение: Пространство, культура и время в творчестве Н.К. Рериха и Л.В. Шапошниковой
The works of Nicholas Roerich was studied during his lifetime, but an
integrated approach to his legacy was formed at the end of the twentieth century and
such a direction of scientific research as Roerich studies appeared. Pavel Belikov was
the founder and classic of Roerichs studies, and Lyudmila Shaposhnikova became the
scientist who most fully and deeply illuminated all facets of the work of the great artist
and his family. In the work of Lyudmila Shaposhnikova, as a researcher of the Roerichs’
heritage, there is a lot of natural harmony with them, especially with the activities of
Nicholas Roerich is about travel, culture, grandiose public projects. One of the fateful
milestones on which their work is built is the culture of India, which has long been a
symbol of spirituality and a center of attraction for the Russian creative elite. This symbol
has a real foundation, because the Vedic and Buddhist culture of India allows openminded
researchers to come into contact with its high spiritual values. Central Asia is
no less important in the spiritual system of Roerich’s heritage. But for Westerners, the
primary sources of the innermost knowledge of the East are difficult to access and obscure.
The Roerichs’ creativity played the role of a translator, bringing Russia and the
East closer together and allowing them to better understand each other. And Lyudmila
Shaposhnikova introduced it into scientific circulation, revealing various aspects of this
connection for researchers.
