Road Injuries Leading Cause of Death Among Men Aged 10 to 39
Worldwide, road injuries are the leading cause of death among males aged 10–39. An international team of researchers reached this conclusion as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023, analysing data from 204 countries between 1990 and 2023. Their findings have been published in The Lancet Public Health, with HSE University Professor Vasily Vlassov listed among the collaborators.

‘Our Team Consists of True Leaders in Their Respective Academic Disciplines
The HSE International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis studies a wide range of methods for analysing decision-making and possible scenarios for the development of natural, socio-economic, and political phenomena using various mathematical models. The application of advanced mathematical methods to forecasting helps to prevent negative outcomes and avoid erroneous decisions. The HSE News Service spoke to the centre’s director, Prof. Fuad Aleskerov, about its work.

Моделирование микрополосковой антенной решетки с использованием пакета CST MWS

С. 237–242.
Уткин М. В., Grachev N. N., Utkin B., Андреева А. А.

The paper focuses on the numerical simulation of an antenna array using the CST MWS package. Special attention is given to the selection of the array elements' constructive parameters, such as dielectric permittivity, emitter radius, and spacing between elements, as well as the computation of the radiation pattern. The analysis emphasizes the width of the main lobe and the reduction of sidelobe levels. Additionally, the frequency dependence of the gain and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) across the operating frequency range is presented.

On boundary layer separation criterion in the framework of double-deck model
Gaydukov R. K., Lungin L. E., Russian Journal of Nonlinear Dynamics 2026 Vol. 22 No. 3 P. 537–547
This study numerically investigates boundary layer separation criteria for flows over small surface irregularities on a flat plate at high Reynolds numbers using the double-deck model framework.          By solving the Prandtl equations with self-induced pressure, critical amplitude values (i.e. the height of a hump or the depth of a pit) separating attached laminar flow ...

Phase-Field System as a Regularization of the Free-Boundary Problem for an Incompressible Immiscible Two-Component Flow
Burov N.A., Gaydukov R.K., Russian Journal of Mathematical Physics 2026 Vol. 33 No. 2 P. 263–275
The spreading of a droplet of incompressible fluid over a substrate under the action of capillary forces and gravity is studied within a phase-field framework. An asymptotic analysis shows that the solution of the phase-field system (regularized problem) converges to the solution of the corresponding limiting problem when a regularization parameter tends to zero. The ...

KdV-like soliton gas: similarity and difference in integrable and non-integrable models
Didenkulova E., Flamarion M., Pelinovsky E., Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena 2025 Vol. 481 Article 134815
A comparison of the statistical characteristics of a rarefied soliton gas is carried out within the framework of integrable and non-integrable equations from the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) hierarchy. As examples, multi-soliton solutions of the modified KdV equation, and the modular Schamel equation are considered. A common property of the dynamics of bipolar solitons is the ...

Fundamental hydrodynamic breathers on standing waves
He Y., Slunyaev A., Mori N. et al., Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena 2026 Vol. 488 Article 135098
Extreme wave localizations in nonlinear dispersive media, arising from modulation instability in weakly nonlinear wave interactions, can be effectively modeled by breather solutions. These breathers are exact solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and provide accurate models for understanding and controlling unidirectional rogue wave dynamics in numerical simulations or laboratory settings. A recent study by Y. He et ...

S. Tiraspolsky, Sellone F., Serebryakov G., Proceedings of the International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA 01) 2001 P. 691–696
In a wireless communication system, signals sent into the channel interact with the environment in a very complex way. Thereby transmitted signals may be subject to many forms of degradation among which there are causes of multipath propagation: • Reflections due to obstacles with the size greater than a wavelength; • Refractions due to the ...

S.A. Scherbak, Terpitskiy А. N., Reshetov I. et al., ACS Photonics 2025 Vol. 12 No. 4 P. 2016–2026
Standard e-beam lithography system is used for writing a set of charged regions in glass, which provide patterned area possessing electric-field-induced quadratic optical nonlinearity. Patterned glass provides second optical harmonic generation (SHG) under a normal incident fundamental wave. Grating-like regions with periodicity from 2 to 32 μm demonstrate diffractionlike radiation patterns due to the interference of the second harmonic waves in the ...

D.I. Iudin, N.L. Aleksandrov, Syssoev A. A. et al., Atmospheric Research 2025 Vol. 323 Article 108187
Lightning development involves transient events that produce non-stationary, abrupt changes in lightning structure. The most prominent (and most studied) examples of reactivation of lightning side branches are recoil leaders that are initiated near the tips of previously decayed positive leader channels. This study proposes a numerical model that, among other things, takes into account evolution ...

Moiseev E., Ivanov K., Khabibullin R. et al., Optics and Laser Technology 2025 Vol. 183 Article 112299
We demonstrate that microlasers with an anisotropic cavity (limaçon- or quadrupole-shaped) containing quantum well-dots in the active region are able to operate under continuous wave current injection at 90 °C. Deviation of the cavity shape from circular leads to the directionality of the emission in the lateral direction, while the quality factor of the structures and ...
