Социокультурные смыслы «Властелина колец»: канон и конфликт интерпретаций
The “Lord of the Rings” gives us a perfect example of transmedia
transformation of initial author’s meanings. Nowadays Tolkien’s trilogy being a
prominent part of world culture is a complex transmedia phenomenon. Its actuality
is based upon Peter Jackson’s film adaptations (2001-2003) as well as upon further
media projects – The Hobbit film series (2012-2014), the forthcoming Amazon
series etc. Within the frame of convergence culture (H. Jenkings) the “Lord of the
Rings’ exists on several different levels simultaneously: as a literary masterpiece, as
a visual dominant and a universal unit carrying a cultural code. Moreover, presentday
canon is characterized by variability and productivity as well as sustainability.
Thisphenomenonis closely connected with transmedia storytelling – new media being
a special kind of environment for a constant re-actualization of Tolkien’s main story
lines described in his “Hobbit”, the “Lord of the Rings” and the “Silmarillion”.
