The 'Second Shift' Is Not Why Women Avoid News
Women are more likely than men to avoid political and economic news, but the reasons for this behaviour are linked less to structural inequality or family-related stress than to personal attitudes and the emotional perception of news content. This conclusion was reached by HSE researchers after analysing data from a large-scale survey of more than 10,000 residents across 61 regions of Russia. The study findings have been published in Woman in Russian Society.

Digital Sentiments: Toward a Theory of Emotions in Digital Governance
Vissoky G., Vigoda-Gadot E., Styrin E. M., Public Administration Review 2026 P. 1–11
We propose an interdisciplinary theoretical framework that integrates insights from political science, public administration, organizational theory, economics, psychology, sociology, and cognitive science to better understand the role of emotions in governance in the digital age. We argue that citizens' sentiments and emotional responses are central to their relationships with government institutions and bureaucracies. Building on bounded ...

The review provides an analysis of modern cognitive psychological theories of emotions and neural basis of mechanisms standing behind retention of emotional information in working memory. The tendency seen in modern neurocognitive theories is characterized by the rejection of localization for any psychological functions in favor of network models, where higher-order processes are supported by distributed neural networks connecting ...

Facial obstructions and baseline correction shape affective computing’s detection of emotion–behavior relationships
Shepelenko A., Kosonogov V., Shestakova A., Frontiers in Psychology 2026 Vol. 17 Article 1713462
Introduction:  Affective computing (AC) is increasingly used to study emotional processes underlying decision-making, yet its methodological validity in capturing spontaneous emotional responses and their behavioral relevance remains debated. In particular, it is unclear how facial obstructions and baseline correction affect the accuracy of AC-based facial emotion measures in capturing emotion–behavior relationships. Methods:  The predictive validity of AC-based facial ...

Emotions in Meaning-Making: Toward a Sociological Theory of Cathexis
Kurakin D., Sociological forum 2025 P. 1–12
The role of emotion in meaning-making remains undertheorized in cultural sociology. This article argues that emotions and affect are intrinsic to meaning-making and proposes cathexis—the attachment of emotions generated in social interaction to objects, symbols, and ideas—as the fundamental mechanism by which emotions co-constitute cultural meanings. Durkheim implied this constitutive role of affect in his theory ...

On the Etymological Awareness of the Traditional Arabic Lexicography Aethiopica in Lisān al-ʿarab and Tāj al-ʿarūs
Kogan L., Journal of the American Oriental Society, США 2025 Vol. 145 No. 3 P. 623–634
Arab lexicographers rarely attempted to search for a foreign origin of Arabic words, trying instead to derive them—not very persuasively—from autochthonous Arabic roots. Known exceptions mostly involve Persian, a foreign language par excellence for most Arab philologists. This article explores this phenomenon in a different linguistic domain, viz., loanwords from Classical Ethiopic (Geʿez), the language ...

The article discusses the problem of measuring indicators related to personal goals. Various positive effects of goals for well-being, self-regulation and personality development have been widely proved in psychological science. We propose a generalization of different measurements in the form of an independent scale of emotional-volitional goal engagement, complementing the existing concepts. Goal engagement allows ...

Liaukovich K., Panfilova E., Khayrullina G. et al., International Journal of Psychophysiology 2025 Vol. 207 Article 112475
Individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) have difficulty with regulating their emotions and show reduced functioning of inhibitory control. It was reported previously that OCD patients had delayed antisaccade response and increased error rate only when affective pictures with negative valence served as fixation stimuli in “the antisaccade emotional fixation task”. Complementary to the previous research, ...
