КИТАЙСКАЯ ИНИЦИАТИВА «ОДИН ПОЯС — ОДИН ПУТЬ»: РЕАЛИИ И ВЫЗОВЫ
: 7 years have passed since the official announcement of the “One Belt, One Road“ initiative (BRI). 125 countries and 29 international organizations have already signed 173 cooperation agreements and have declared their willingness to participate in the project to one degree or another. According to the Chinese political leaders, BRI aims to create an open, free and wide platform for international cooperation. This mega-project, which some experts even consider being an integration initiative, is one of the most ambitious investment infrastructure projects ever conceived. Arguments in favor are based on the idea of the positive impact of infrastructure on economic growth. However, a number of analysts are quite cautious in assessing the economic feasibility and equal effectiveness of the project, perceiving China’s attempt to build up its potential and solve its economic problems. The lack of a unified and coherent strategy, the growing cost of many of the proposed projects, a decrease in growth rates, and an in debt in the participating countries necessitate an additional analysis of the initiative. There is no doubt, that potentially the “Belt and Road” initiative could boost trade, contribute to the dynamic investment and improve the welfare of the population of the participating countries. However, this is possible subject to the necessary political reforms aimed at ensuring transparency and reducing social and corruption risks.
