Смертность молодежи от внешних причин в Южном федеральном округе
As a result of the redistribution of mortality from events of undetermined intent (EUI), we obtained estimates of real mortality rates from homicides and suicides in Russia and regions of the Southern Federal District. Thus, in the Southern Federal District, the death rate from homicide in the age group of 15-19 years on average in 2015-2017 increased by 2.5 times in men compared to official data, and in women – by 6.5 times. In the age group of 20-24 years, the growth was 3.7 and 2.5 times for men and women, respectively. The death rate from suicide increased by 2-3 times. A significant increase in death rates from violent causes occurred in the Astrakhan and Rostov regions.
We also calculated standardized mortality rates from external causes among youth in Russia, taking into account deaths encoded as EUI. In the top three, road accidents (181 people and 66 per 1 million population of men and women, respectively), suicide (178 and 42), the group "other accidents" (141 and 38) were among both sexes. This was followed by homicides (65) and drownings (61) in men, and poisonings (19) and homicides (19) in women.
