Book chapter
Классическая школа, неклассические дети
The paper analyzes, using a survey of 700 high school students, their attitudes towards classical and modern literature. School continues to shape views of Russian classical literature as a supervalue. Yet, reading practices diverge from the values. Most students do not read contemporary Russian authors viewing them as subpar to the classics. Foreign literature, on the contrary, is popular among teenagers because it is not subjected to comparisons with the classics.
