The article is devoted to the interaction between ethics and economics in terms of behavior determination (method) and motivation problem (ethical content). Analysis focuses on theories of John Locke and Adam Smith as ethical conceptions, considering the meaning of moral values and the problem of coordination of individual and social goals. These philosophers postulate the close relationship between moral categories and self-interest, that fills the gap of modern economic mainstream.
