The aim of the article is to analyze the use of grammatical transformations in translating titles of academic papers from Russian into English. Resorting to grammatical transformations is dictated by the need to achieve translational equivalence and to conform to the standards of scientific style. The focus is placed on a variety of such transformations, the most frequent of which is transposition. Due attention is given to noun chains in terms of their appropriateness for translation and possible translation difficulties.
the article deals with the problem of sociocultural competence formation among the students of non-philological faculties outside the classroom, drawing on the example of German Club «gut geD-A-CHt». The key goal of the Club is sociocultural competence development in its linguocultural and intercultural components. The article describes the subjects of Club activities and their implementation, fields of students’ project activities, competences improvement and importance of the Club for the educational process in the National Research University-Higher School of Economics.
The article deals with certain aspects of teaching special translation to law students who major in various aspects of law. Translation competence is viewed as inseparable part of the curriculum in private international law, public international law and European law.
The article examines the reasons for low motivation for autonomous learning and focuses on the review of the research carried out to identify students’ interpretation of the following key notions: “motivation strategies” and “autonomous learning” in relation to learning foreign languages. The article considers the interrelation between motivation and autonomous learning, presents key motivation strategies and teaching techniques that students see as the best for their academic achievement.
