Роботизация как фактор адаптации российских фирм к внеэкономическим шокам
Robotization and automation of various industries is one of the main technological trends of the last decade. However, the role of robotization in companies' ability to weather the 2020 coronary crisis has not been fully explored to date. Additionally, there is no empirical research at all on the impact of robots on the success of companies in the context of the 2022 sanctions shock. The paper uses the results of a survey of 1.8 companies in the Russian manufacturing industry to examine the features and effects of robotization of firms under the shocks of recent years. A significant positive relationship between the adoption of robots after 2019 and business size is found, indicating that the digital divide between SMEs and large firms is increasing. It is shown that robotization contributed to employment retention during the Coronacrisis. We also find a positive correlation between the success of companies in passing through the COVID and sanctions shocks and their use of imported equipment, which implies that import restrictions carry significant risks for the sustainability of Russian firms.
