Интерпретация картины мира в мейнстримовских и альтернативных медиа
This article reviews the attempt to research the context in which Crimea is mentioned both in international mainstream and alternative media. The review is based on the cases of СNN and RT: the latter is considered by many scholars as an alternative media in the coverage of international affairs. The subject analysis is the online content for media organizations on the hottest international topics for the period from March till June, 2020. The theoretical background is the author’s classification of alternative media and international broadcasting. Special attention is paid to the history and modern descriptions of the above-mentioned media as well as to the views of the specialists that research problems of the modern media in the 21-st century. The article also focuses on the definition of mainstream and alternative media. Mainstream denotes the newsrooms that are controlled by transnational corporations and big international organizations that propagate the common values of international world. Alternative media are described as amalgamations of various media on various online platforms whose editorial policy differs from mainstream media organizations. The analysis conducted by the author focuses on the mentioning of Crimea in International media on the English language. It shows that in the mainstream media the use of the word annexation in relation to Crimea is still frequent and the viewpoint of Russian and some international news media is not taken into consideration.
