The paper presents possible future forms of organization of rural settlements in Russia, as well as employment options for the rural population. Sustainability becomes the main condition for the future development of the village. Eco-settlements, agro-towns, shift settlements, fishing villages are proposed as promising forms. In the sixth technological order, when in addition to the socioeconomic development of rural areas, it is necessary to pay special attention to environmental issues and the consequences of automation and robotization of agricultural production, the proposed options for rural settlements will be the answer to the existing challenges. In addition, in the article the authors have developed a conceptual model of sustainable development of rural areas of Russia in the sixth technological mode. Priority technologies for ensuring sustainable development of rural areas, possible forms of employment of rural population, etc. are shown.
