Nomos e poikilía dell'Essere. Genesi metafisica del molteplice. Una deduzione schellinghiana
Dezi A., Sesto San Giovanni: Mimesis, 2026.
This book is a metaphysical inquiry into the nature and origin of the manifold. Taking Schelling’s Erlangen lectures of 1820–1821 as its point of departure and hermeneutic horizon, it develops an interpretation of Nomos that transcends its political, juridical, and social determinations. Nomos thereby emerges as the ontological principle of an infinite, variegated multiplicity of ...

The authors survey all known witnesses—including the autograph Barb. gr. 420, the Lond. Arund. 520, and several later copies—and analyze their textual relationships, variant readings, and codicological features. They demonstrate ...

Kildin Saami negation is not where you would expect it
Поцелуев В. А., Ural-Altaic Studies 2026 Vol. 62 No. 3 P. 62–81
In recent years, the researchers working on Uralic languages within Minimalism seem to have built a consensus on how to define the position of negation in any language with a negative verb. The main and usually the only argument is based on the work [Mitchell 2006]. The argument is as follows: if the negative verb expresses tense, ...

Postnominal numerals are over-specified in referential communication: Evidence from Thai in comparison to Russian
Zevakhina N., Щипкова А. А., Chinkova A., Voprosy Jazykoznanija 2025 No. 2 P. 105–122
This paper presents experimental evidence for the over-specification (redundant use) of Thai postnominal numerals in referential communication. The first experiment reveals high rates of over-specification in oral responses that include Thai postnominal and Russian prenominal numerals tested in a contrastive multi-number visual context. The second experiment demonstrates lower but still relatively high rates of over-specification in written responses that ...

Вилинбахова Е. Л., Zevakhina N., Terra Linguistica 2025 Т. 16 № 3 С. 13–30

Acta linguistica Petropolitana 2025 Vol. 21 No. 2 P. 270–286
The paper reports on an experimental study that reveals a difference between two types of under-informative utterances with the quantifier “nekotoryj” (‘some’) in Russian. The experiment was conducted as an inference task based on [Geurts, Pouscoulous 2009; Val Tiel et al. 2016] with some modifications. The experiment showed that both types of utterances more often have inference-based interpretations rather than ...

A combination of properties of direct, indirect, and free indirect discourse: A case study of the Russian particle “mol”
Zevakhina N., Voprosy Jazykoznanija 2026 No. 3 P. 54–70
The paper demonstrates that the Russian particle mol exhibits a combination of properties associated with direct, indirect, and free indirect discourse (FID). First, mol-clauses license shiftable linguistic items (adverbial indexicals, expressive speech acts, imperatives, evaluative lexical items) not only in FID, as typically assumed for such linguistic items, but also in indirect discourse. Second, first- and second-person pronouns in ...

Soqotri is a Semitic language belonging to the Modern South Arabian branch and spoken by the approximately 100,000 inhabitants of the island of Soqotra. As elsewhere in Semitic, Soqotri verbal derivation involves a complex system of the so-called verbal stems. The present contribution deals with morphology and semantics of the stem formally corresponding to Arabic ...

Abstract: The article examines the characteristic features of the 13th century Spanish language (based on the collection of proverbs “Kalila and Dimna”), particularly the use of subjunctive mode: the future (Futuro del Subjuntivo) and the past (Imperfecto del Subjuntivo) of the conjunctive. Along with some other features of the Castilian romance morphological structure, the use ...

Belozerova A., Kharitonova A., al-Da‘arhi A. ‘., Folklore 2025 Vol. 136 No. 1 P. 62–83
This article presents an edition of a Soqotri recursive (cumulative) exchange-tale about ‘Ali Bot‘il, a traditional hero of Soqotri folklore. The authors analyse Soqotri stories featuring ‘Ali Bot‘il as a trickster-like, roguish figure, alongside their South Arabian parallels. The tale is unusual in several respects: recursive tales as well as tales with actively functioning animal ...

Belozerova A., Kharitonova A., al-Da‘arhi A. ‘., Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies 2023 Vol. 86 No. 3 P. 561–580
The article presents an annotated edition of a newly recorded Soqotri text about a wild man. The authors attempt to locate the story within a wide range of wild/feral men narratives. The protagonist of the Soqotri story displays a set of features cross-culturally ascribed to wild men, and the narrative pattern of the account demonstrates a sequence of ...

'Parasite h' in Soqotri Revisited
Bulakh M., Journal Asiatique 2022 Vol. 310 No. 2 P. 189–210
Since the earliest studies on the Soqotri language (Modern South Arabian branch, Semitic family), it has been observed that a non-etymological h (labeled 'parasite h') often appears before the last vowel of nominal bases in some slots of their paradigm. Until now, the 'parasite h' has been thought to be related to vowel length (etymological or secondary). In the ...

Suffi xed and prefi xed words have common linguistic properties and are closely related to the base word in the mental lexicon. Whether diff erent types of information are important for the storage of diff erent types of derivatives or whether their mental organisation is similar are currently relevant questions in psycholinguistics. My experimental data point at diff erent ways of storing related verbs ...

Discontinuous past in Abaza: an encoded meaning or an implicature
Клягина Е. С., , in: Семнадцатая конференция по типологии и грамматике для молодых исследователей. Тезисы докладов. Санкт-Петербург, 19-21 ноября 2020 г.: ИЛИ РАН, 2020. P. 145–148.
In the paper we argue that the discontinuous past interpretation is a conversational implicature, which rise can be explained by the following chain of reasoning. Natural contexts where the Retro-Aorist is used are clauses that need another clause in the same sentence. Thus, if the Retro-Aorist form is uttered and no other clause appears in ...

The Semantics and Syntax of Stem IV in Soqotri
Bulakh M., Journal of Semitic Studies 2021 Vol. 66 No. 1 P. 263–292
The present study considers the function of the pattern of the so-called stem IV, primarily associated with causatives, in Soqotri (Modern South Arabian).
