Beijing status of a 2022 Winter Olympic Games "capital" assumes Chinese national ice hockey team mandatory participation, team that currently occupies only 38th place in the world ranking. The prospect of creating such a competitive Chinese team by 2022 forced the Chinese authorities to seriously address this problem. According to the General Sports Administration of China strategy, the main idea of ​​the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing is the popularization of still not very developed winter sports among 300 million local residents. And ice hockey is becoming a significant part of this strategy. Russian Hockey Federation and the Continental Hockey League became main Chinese hockey partners in this program. Experts understand that it is difficult to achieve serious cardinal changes in five years. It is necessary to build infrastructure facilities, ensure qualified trainers and teaching staff work, develop reserve training program, create an effective domestic hockey market. But Russian experience in the preparation of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, leading position of Russian hockey, practice of cooperation with hockey partners and desire to develop new hockey markets make it possible to effect the desired results.
