‘Hedgehog Versus ‘Relatives: Researchers Measure How the Brain Responds to Unexpected Words During Natural Speech
Russian neurophysiologists, including researchers from HSE University, have demonstrated the feasibility of using event-related fields (ERFs) to study brain activity during natural speech perception. The researchers showed that this approach can be applied not only to individual words but also to continuous speech. Their findings indicate that words whose meanings differ significantly from the preceding context require longer processing times. The study also reveals that the brain processes function words in two stages: first, it identifies their grammatical role and then uses this information to predict the next word. The study has been published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Рутинные (обыденные) техники самопомощи в офисе: на примере мастерской архитекторов

Организационная психология. 2020. Т. 10. № 3. С. 164–184.
Павлова М. В., Nartova-Bochaver S. K.

Abstract. The objectives of an interdisciplinary exploratory study carried out at the intersection of organizational and positive psychology, environmental psychology, design and ergonomics are the introduction and justification of the concept of “routine self-help technique” as applied to the organizational environment (architect’s office), the study of the content of these techniques and the differences in their use depending on the context of the task and gender of employees. Methodology. The included observation (for seventeen years), the case method (description of specific successfully functioning workshops) and a standardized interview were used. The sample consisted of 20 professional architects working in several architectural offices in Ufa (20 people, 11 men and 9 women, age from 23 to 63 years, work experience from six months to 41 years), and two experts. Results. A list of typical routine self-help techniques and those spatial areas of the office that are necessary for their implementation have been identified. It is shown that time spent in deadline conditions doubles compared with weekdays, regardless of the gender of the workers. It has been found that recovery and mobilization techniques used by men and women are different. It is shown that for recovery workers more often use environmental methods, and for mobilization - mental. Conclusions. The results of the study show that architects really use the spontaneously open methods of restoration and mobilization given by theoffice space. It seems that the concept of “routine self-help techniques” can be used constructively to scientifically substantiate the design of an office that is friendly to employees of various specialties. The value of the results. For the first time, an algorithm has been set for an interdisciplinary applied research aimed at creating a healthy office environment, taking into account the adaptive behavior of employees.

Hypergraphs from multivariate connectivity: caCOH-based EEG/MEG representation
Vlasenko D., Saranskaia I., Zakharov D., European Physical Journal: Special Topics 2026 P. 1–16
Hypergraphs provide a natural framework for representing neurophysiological interactions distributed across sets of sensors. A key methodological question is how hyperedges should be defined from frequency-resolved electroencephalography/magnetoencephalography (EEG/MEG) data. We demonstrate a construction strategy in which hyperedges are obtained from canonical coherence (caCOH), an extension of coherence that estimates coupling between multidimensional signal spaces. To ...

Musical training has a significant impact on brain organization, leading to functional and structural adaptations that enhance auditory, visual, motor, and cognitive processes. This study investigates how extensive musical training shapes functional brain connectivity by comparing professional musicians and non-musicians. Using EEG phase-locking value (PLV) analysis, we examined neural synchronization across alpha, beta, and gamma frequency ranges during music ...
