This article is a thematic overview of academic editions submitted for the  Sidney Edelstein Book Prize. The prize was established by the Society for the History of Technology and is awarded to authors of outstanding works on history of science and technology, that open new research perspectives, make a considerable contribution to the research field in terms of themes, problems or methodology and problematize existing conceptions. The author of the present article was a member of the jury of the book prize. The books submitted for the competition represent the cutting edge field of conceptual approaches and research methodologies. Within the frames of the article the competition books are grouped in several thematic clusters  - science, technology and power; gender and technology and disability studies; environmental history; technology in everyday life; epistemological strategies.
