The article analyzes the propaganda of rural electrification in the early Soviet period. Main attention is dedicated to the political context of electrification, literary texts and the press, visual culture. The article focuses on the representation of the role of Lenin in electrification, as well as on the construction of the image of Lenin-demiurge, the creator of the new industrial world. A certain canon of representation of electricity linked with the image of Lenin was shaped in visual culture, both suggested by the authorities and created by the people themselves. This was reflected in the metaphor of the “Ilyich bulb”. This may be explained by mythologization of both Lenin and electricity itself, that still was perceived as an almost mythic alchemic power, capable of resurrecting.
