The concept developed by modern French political thinker Claude Lefort takes a special place in modern theoretical discourse concerning democratic experience. The gist of the concept developed by C. Lefort is viewing democracy as a symbolic order of modernity. Such approach involves not only studing practices and institutions of power, but also investigating the forms of its symblic representations. The article analyses the key ideas of C. Lefort's concept and its contribution to the theoretical debate on democracy.
