К вопросу о роли прозвищной номинации в создании образа политика
This article examines the role of nicknames in creating the image of a politician. The research was conducted on the material of the nicknames that were given to an American businessman and politician Donald Trump. The sources of nicknaming and motivational criteria were studied, as well as the derivational patterns and stylistic devices that create an affective and emotional meaning of the nicknames. Comparison of modern nicknames with nicknames of politicians of the past revealed a predominant tendency of mass media to create numerous pejorative units of secondary nomination. The study also showed that the same feature can underlie nicknames with the opposite evaluative meanings, thus aiming to construct two polar images. It is concluded that creation of numerous synonymic nicknames that highlight certain features, real or ascribed to a politician, is used by mass media to form a desired politician’s public image.
