THE RIGHT HAND FETID, THE LEFT UNCLEAN: AN UNKNOWN BYZANTINE SPIRITUALLY BENEFICIAL TALE

What we see in our tale is the exact imitation of the Muslim pre- judice camouflaged by a false reference to a Church Father’s authority.    Such mimicry seems natural for the Antioch Christians who had been    living under the Islamic rule for centuries. It is unlikely that the tale under    scrutiny emerged under Patriarch Theodoretus but it definitely comes from    the Antioch milieu of the period when his name was still memorable.
