Жертвы и агрессоры: визуальные репрезентации ядерной угрозы в кинематографе периода новой холодной войны

The issues of unequal access to nuclear resources and unequal distribution of the burden from the exploitation of the atom today are of interest not only to researchers but also to cinematographers. The purpose of this study is to identify the features of visual representations of the nuclear threat in the cinema in the new Cold War period on the world periphery of nuclear standoff. Drawing upon a constructivist methodological framework, the article explores how contemporary cinema employs narrative techniques to challenge nuclear colonialism and nuclear inequality, as depicted through the portrayal of victims and aggressors of the nuclear threat. The author highlights the following features of the relevant visual representations: first, they are driven by ideology; images of nuclear inequality and nuclear colonialism can form both pro-nuclear and anti-nuclear discourse. Secondly, the images of victims of the nuclear threat are represented through the figures of children, who are representatives of the most vulnerable social groups, as well as images of the destructive power of nuclear weapons and the immorality of nuclear tests. Thirdly, the use of nuclear discourse in cinema is employed in the context of international confrontation.
