The review is devoted to selected chapters from the book “Pseudodoxia Epidemica, or Enquires into very many received Tenants and commonly preformed Truths” by an English writer, scientist, philosopher and physician of the 17th century Thomas Brownee, published by the Ural Federal University Publishing House, which opened this well-known author in his homeland to the Russian reader. This is Brownee's third work issued by the publisher, along with “Hydriotaphia, Urne Buriael” and “Double Hermeneutics”. The review notes the high scientific culture of the publication, which is equipped with a detailed reference section - comments on the text, a preface and an afterword introducing the life, work, history of the reception of the scientist's heritage in England and abroad, detailed comments on each individual section of the book, as well as the chronology of Thomas's life Browne. The role of the treatise is noted as an example of a popular science text of its era, reflecting the need of the time to rethink knowledge and demonstrating the methodology of this rethinking. The features of Browne's work are emphasized, which serves as a compendium of the curious misconceptions of mankind, which make reading it useful and fascinating both for curious readers and for professionals: philologists, philosophers, historians, biologists and doctors.
