This article focuses on the new diplomatic history. When traditional description of negotiations and of their results became outdated after the historiographical turns of the second half of the 20th century, the request for a new approach appeared. Though scholars often refer to year 2008 as the starting point of the new diplomatic history, in the reality revision of the old approach to diplomacy began a few decades earlier. A great contribution to the process was made by medievalists, who were in need of new working principles since they had abandoned the idea of national states in the Middle Ages and the early modern period. The supporters of the approach suggested to broaden geographical and chronological frames, diversify research topics, and not work with official documents.
