Конституция и политическое представительство в восприятии цесаревича Николая Александровича (1843-1865)
The article studies how Aleksandr II’s eldest son, Tsesarevich Nicholas Aleksandrovich, perceived constitutionalism in the 1860s and public discussions on the introduction of political representation in the Russian Empire. Drawing on unpublished archival materials, the author traces the evolution of the Tsesarevich’s ideas. In the early 1860s, Nicholas Aleksandrovich did not exclude the possibility of limiting the Russian monarchy in the distant future, but by the end of his life, he was convinced that the country was not ready for a parliament. One of the important factors that influenced his change of opinion was his travels around the Russian Empire. During those visits, Nicholas Aleksandrovich witnessed patriotic expressions of support for autocracy on the part of the population.
