Ритмика переводов И. А. Бродского из Дж. Донна (квантитативный анализ)
This article investigates the rhythmic structure of translations performed by I. Brodsky
between 1965 and 1970. The primary focus is on the analysis of the iambic pentameter, particularly
its rhythmic characteristics in the original texts by J. Donne and Brodsky’s translations. Based on
statistical data and theoretical assumptions, two hypotheses are proposed: the effort to preserve the
original rhythmic structure and the intentional deviation from the first form of the iambic
pentameter. The analysis reveals that Brodsky employs his unique rhythmic profile in translating
Donne's texts, intentionally maintaining elements of alternation despite the monotony of the
originals. The article provides data on stress profiles and rhythmic forms, concluding that the poet's
conscious approach to the rhythmic organization of his translations differs from the rhythmics of
Donne’s original texts. Thus, the study highlights the originality and uniqueness of Brodsky’s
translation strategy, combining semantic and lexical precision with rhythmic innovations.
