At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

Intertype superconductivity evoked by the interplay of disorder and multiple bands

Frontiers of Physics. 2024. Vol. 19. No. 4. Article 43205.
P. M. Marychev, A. A. Shanenko, A. V. Vagov

Nonmagnetic impurity scattering is known to shift up the Ginzburg−Landau parameter  k of a superconductor. In this case, when the system is initially in type I, it can change its magnetic response, crossing the intertype domain with  k = 1 between the two standard superconductivity types and arriving at type II. In the present work we demonstrate that the impact of disorder can be much more profound in the presence of the multiband structure of the charge carrier states. In particular, when the band diffusivities differ from each other, the intertype domain tends to expand significantly, including points with k>>1  that belong to deep type-II in conventional single-band superconductors. Our finding sheds light on the nontrivial disorder effect and significantly complements earlier results on the enlargement of the intertype domain in clean multiband superconductors.

Dmitriev A., Kornilov V., Batienkov R., Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering 2026 Vol. 886 P. 249–255
Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

Arutyunov K., Kharitonov I. A., Petrosyants K. O., JETP Letters 2026 Vol. 124 No. 6 P. 1–16
Superconducting properties of metallic micro- and nanowires can be entirely different from those of bulk superconductors. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium current-induced state of a quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channel. The most interesting phenomenon here is the stepped I–V characteristic, explained by a process known as phase slip center activation. If the origin of such step-like ...

When universal machine learning models fail in capacitance prediction for carbon-based supercapacitors: Leakage-aware validation and electrolyte screening
Makarov D. M., Kalikin N., Fashchevsky K. A. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 579 Article 150159
Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors; however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

Enhancement of superconductivity by polarization of magnetic impurities in disordered films
Seleznev G., Fominov Yakov V., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 7 Article 074505
Dirty superconducting films with magnetic impurities can exhibit nontrivial behavior in a magnetic field that polarizes the impurity spins. As predicted by Kharitonov and Feigelman (KF) [JETP Lett. 82, 421 (2005)], this polarization reduces the exchange scattering rate. Consequently, a parallel magnetic field can enhance the critical temperature Tc when magnetic-field pair breaking is weak, as realized for ...

Interband effects in the intertype regime of dirty two-band superconductors
P. M. Marychev, A. A. Shanenko, Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 114 No. 7 Article 074509
We investigate the effect of weak interband impurity scattering on the intertype (IT) domain between type-I and type-II superconductivity in diffusive two-band superconductors. Our results show that the significant broadening of the IT domain with increasing band diffusivity ratio, previously established in the absence of interband scattering, persists under weak interband scattering. However, depending on ...

Localization in materials with several conducting bands as a method to boost superconductivity
Vyacheslav D. Neverov, Alexander E. Lukyanov, Andrey V. Krasavin et al., Communications Physics 2025 Vol. 8 Article 320
Strong disorder exerts two opposing effects on a superconducting material. On one hand, it leads to localization of electrons and Cooper pairs, resulting in spatial fragmentation of the condensate state. It enhances the local density of single-particle states, increasing the binding energy of Cooper pairs and the critical temperature at which the condensate state appears. ...

P. M. Marychev, E. G. Nikonov, Stolyarov V. S. et al., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2025 Vol. 111 No. 13 Article 134501
A common feature of both single- and multiband superconductors is the presence of a crossover between conventional type I and type II superconductivity through an intertype (IT) domain in the phase diagram of the magnetic response. In diffusive single-band superconductors, this domain is known to be very narrow due to scattering by nonmagnetic impurities. Recently, ...

Circularly polarized radiation to control the superconducting states: stability analysis
Croitoru M., Buzdin A. I., Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter 2024 Vol. 37 No. 4 Article 045601
Recently, the use of circularly polarized radiation for on-demand switching between distinct quantum states in a superconducting nanoring exposed to half-quantum magnetic flux has been proposed. However, the effectiveness of this method depends on the system's stability against local variations in the superconducting characteristics of the ring and flux fluctuations. In this study, we utilize ...

Liu D., Bayan Amer Abzakh, Kazakova E. et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2024 Vol. 15 No. 45 P. 11268–11274
Double perovskite Cs2AgBiBr6 is a promising alternative to lead-based perovskites with excellent stability and attractive optoelectronic properties. However, a relatively large bandgap severely limits its performance in many applications such as solar cells and photodetectors. It has been reported that a random distribution of Ag and Bi atoms in Cs2AgBiBr6 effectively reduces its bandgap without ...

The Impact of Short-Range (Gaussian) Disorder Correlations on Superconducting Characteristics
Vyacheslav D. Neverov, Alexander E. Lukyanov, Andrey V. Krasavin et al., Condensed Matter 2024 Vol. 9 No. 1 Article 6
The pursuit of enhanced superconducting device performance has historically focused on minimizing disorder in materials. Recent research, however, challenges this conventional wisdom by exploring the unique characteristics of disordered materials. Following the studies, disorder is currently viewed as a design parameter that can be tuned. This shift in the paradigm has sparked an upsurge in ...

Suppression of Superconducting Fluctuations in Multiband Superconductors as a Mechanism for Increasing the Critical Temperature (Brief Review)
A. V. Krasavin, A. V. Vagov, A. S. Vasenko et al., JETP Letters 2024 Vol. 119 No. 3 P. 233–250
The combination of strongly coupled Cooper pairs and weak superconducting fluctuations is an important prerequisite for achieving high-temperature superconductivity. The review is devoted to the implementation of this condition in multiband superconductors, in which strongly coupled pairs in the shallow conduction band (the Fermi level is close to the band edge) coexist with ordinary, weakly ...
