Подходы к пониманию религиозного туризма: туризм или паломничество?

Two contemporary approaches to understanding a complex concept of “religious tourism” are discussed in the article. Moreover, we examined the relationship of the concept with the term “pilgrimage”, which is quite close to “religious tourism” in its meaning. This type of tourism may become one of the possible solutions for the development and popularization of domestic tourism among the citizens of our country, because of the religion significance for modern Russians. However, for the successful religious tourism promotion in the Russian market, it is necessary to form an understanding of what the religious tourism is among the Russian population. Therefore, we need a comprehensive definition, giving a clear framework for this type of tourist activity. The author's definition is proposed in the work, reflecting the essence of religious tourism, in accordance with the considered approaches and modern Russian legislation governing the tourism sector.
