Правовые основы энергетической политики Европейского союза в отношении Центральной Азии

The article analyzes key strategic documents of the European Union (EU) towards the region of Central Asia, focusing on the energy component. It overviews the reasons why the EU is interested in this field of cooperation with the countries of the region. It finds that in the newest documents energy priorities have shifted: it notices the evolution from the EU desire to use Central Asia as a mere source of fuel to it aspiring for partnership in transit to sustainable energy. Moreover, it finds that all documents invariably contain provisions on the necessity of democratization in the region's countries. It concludes that the EU energy interests in Central Asia are closely intertwined with political ones.
