Russian press responds promptly to all innovative processes and social changes taking place in society, while changes are taking place both at the contents and linguistic levels. An analysis of the language of the modern press testifies to the significant presence of not only news, informational, but also analytical, critical and propaganda materials in it. The influencing function of the publicist text is enhanced.
The words and expressions typical of the newspaper-journalistic style, which are commonly called “gazetizms”, are constantly changing. Some newspapers are emerging from active use of words, a whole layer of new ones appears. Analyzing this process, one can get a better understanding of the dynamics around the development of the journalistic language and the literary language in general. The study of the functioning of newspapers is of great importance for describing the current state of the language and the processes occurring in it.
The article examines the largest lexico-thematic groups of newspaper press in contemporary Russian media: the political, social and health vocabulary.
