Researchers Find More Effective Approach to Revealing Majorana Zero Modes in Superconductors
An international team of researchers, including physicists from HSE MIEM, has demonstrated that nonmagnetic impurities can help more accurately reveal Majorana zero modes—quantum states considered promising building blocks for quantum computing. The researchers found that these impurities shift the energy levels that typically obscure the Majorana signal, while leaving the mode itself largely unaffected, thereby making its spectral peak more distinct. The study has been published in Research.

The Future of Cardiogenetics Lies in Artificial Intelligence
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a program capable of analysing regions of the human genome that were previously inaccessible for accurate interpretation in genetic testing. The program adapts large generative AI (GenAI) models for cardiogenetics to predict how specific mutations affect the function of individual genes.

The paper deals with two interrelated topics. Firstly, this is the role of the research university as a social in
stitution, which not only lays the foundations for the future, but also shapes the image of this future. Scien
tific researches reveal new cause-and-effect relation ships, trends in social development, while design de
velopments contain ideas, technologies for imple menting new knowledge and recommendations for
decision-making authorities. Translated knowledge and skills summarize successful production and socio
cultural practices, the use of which as a minimum in creases the effectiveness of these practices, and
sometimes make them innovative. The university also acts as the most important prerequisite, a factor in the
realization of the image of the future, preparing a cohort of the most intellectually and professionally
trained young people entering the frontier of this development. Secondly, this work contains a brief over
view of the main challenges that the modern university experiences and which erode its mentioned role.
This is the marginalist transformation of the university, digitalization and the expansion of education in an
online format. These challenges generate transformations of the relations between university life partic
ipants: relations between teachers, teachers and students, between students, as well as teachers and stu
dents with the university administration – up to the ethics and etiquette of these relations.
