The subject here is a discussion about the ontological status of phenomenal properties (qualia). What we consider is the argumentation in favor of dualism, formulated by D. Chalmers – the author, known first of all as a philosopher of mind, although he has no less important works on the philosophy of language, – as well as the answer to it, given by J. Perry – the semantician, who recently turned to the theory of the mental. Both of them explicitly base their arguments in this discussion on semantic considerations, the task of understanding which is the main one for the present article.
