The article presents the results of the sound image issue and “descriptiveness” in the novels of V.V. Nabokov, which contributed to the formation of a whole system of Nabokov's idiostyle. An important phenomenon of synesthesia, which is necessary for complete understanding of the works of this author, is studied within the framework of this article. A hypothesis, put forward, concerns the awareness of the use of phonesthetics tools by the author intentionally. The experimental analysis of synesthesia reveals its most important distinctive features and identifies linguistic reasons for its direct connection with sound symbolism, which is linguistically universal. To analyze the phonosemantic components of the selected text fragments, the most significant paragraphs containing descriptions of the appearance, character and their emotional state are selected. The fidelity of the results was supported by the data of instrumental analysis, carried out with the application of the computer programme VAAL-mini. The phonosemantic saturation of the text parts testifies to the importance of sound iconism techniques in revealing the characters' psychologisms, and their importance from the point of view of Nabokov's aesthetics idiostyle.
