Attractor–repeller collision and the heterodimensional dynamics
Chaos. 2023. Vol. 33. No. 6. Article 063113.
We study the heterodimensional dynamics in a simple map on a three-dimensional torus. This map consists of a two-dimensional driving Anosov map and a one-dimensional driven Möbius map, and demonstrates the collision of a chaotic attractor with a chaotic repeller if param- eters are varied. We explore this collision by following tangent bifurcations of the periodic orbits and establish a regime where periodic orbits with different numbers of unstable directions coexist in a chaotic set. For this situation, we construct a heterodimensional cycle connecting these periodic orbits. Furthermore, we discuss properties of the rotation number and of the nontrivial Lyapunov exponent at the collision and in the heterodimensional regime.

For a subfield $\K$ of the field $\C$ of complex numbers, we consider curve and divisorial valuations on the algebra $\K[[x,y]]$ of formal power series in two variables with the coefficients in $\K$. We compute the semigroup Poincar\'e series and the classical Poincar\'e series of a (discrete, rank one) valuation on it. ...

In this paper, we revisit the classic problem of a wave field on a sloping beach of an arbitrary angle and propose a general approach that allows the computation of regular solutions of the problem regardless of the angle. We use the Mellin-transform technique, reducing the problem to singular integral equations with fixed-point singularities of ...

The matrix profile (MP) quickly became one of the most important time series preprocessing methods when it was introduced in 2016, facilitating the solution of a wide range of time series analysis problems, in particular anomaly and pattern detection problems. The high significance has led to the emergence of various tools for MP calculating, but ...

This article concerns the study of modulational instability in the rotated-modified Gardner–Whitham (rmGW) equation. This model incorporates both quadratic and cubic nonlinearities, similarly to the Gardner equation, while also retaining the fully dispersive character of the Whitham equation together with a large-scale dispersive term analogous to that in the Ostrovsky equation. Using a classical multiple-scale asymptotic expansion, we ...

We introduce a two-parameter family of diffeomorphisms which, as we show, demonstrates all types of hyperbolic chaotic dynamics that can appear in the two-dimensional case. One of the fundamental results of three-dimensional topology is the Kneser–Milnor unique decomposition theorem. If a 3-manifold admits a Morse–Smale diffeomorphism without heteroclinic curves, the topology of the decomposition summands can be substantially refined. For orientable 3-manifolds this was done by C. Bonatti, V.Z. Grines, V.S. Medvedev and E. Pecou in 2002. In the present ...

We consider a topologically mixing hyperbolic attractor Λ⊂M^n for a diffeomorphism f:M^n → M^n of a compact orientable n-manifold M^n, n>3. Such an attractor Λ is called an Anosov torus provided the restriction f|_Λ is conjugate to Anosov algebraic automorphism of k-dimensional torus T^k. We prove that Λ is an Anosov torus for two cases: 1) dimΛ=n−1, dimW^u_x=1, x∈Λ; 2) dimΛ=k,dimW^u_x=k−1,x∈Λ, and Λ belongs to an f-invariant closed k-manifold, 2⩽k⩽n, topologically embedded in M^n. ...
