Starting from the charges brought in the framework of the fabricated case against I. D.
Strashun, Professor of the History of Medicine in 1949, the article raises the question about the
existence of Strashun's scientific school, the specifics of its design and the school-forming
practices. The article outlines the scientific and research space of "History of Medicine", which
in the Soviet period was specifically designed by Ilya D. Strashun, relying on the formulated
principles and approaches of Soviet science, the research groundwork of the previous pre-
revolutionary experience and modern foreign innovations. In the focus of attention are research
texts on Strashun's career trajectory and scientific biography, as well as dissertation studies of his
students, concentrated around the problems of the history of medicine. Attention is paid to the
thematic unity of the scholarly work and to the conventions of scholarship articulated in the
dissertation texts. The degree of thematic and methodological continuities / discontinuities of the
dissertations on the history of medicine of Ilya Strashun's applicants / pupils in relation to the
texts of applicants of the later period (1940s) is assessed. It was determined that works in the
field of medical history created a new idea of social medicine and set the tone of modern medical
science.
