The Russian oil and gas complex is going through a difficult period. The introduction of sanctions began in 2014, then the pandemic, currently, in the context of the aggravation of the geopolitical situation, there is unprecedented sanctions pressure on the industry, which negatively affects not only the functioning of the industry itself, but also the economy of both Russia and the world as a whole. Currently, geopolitical challenges are associated with disruption of the logistics of hydrocarbon exports, an attempt to replace Russian oil and gas supplies with alternative supplies from other countries, restrictions on foreign financing of the industry and the participation of international companies in projects, a ban on the supply of equipment and technologies. The article considers the main problems and tasks that have arisen both before the industry and the state and that need to be solved in order for the industry to achieve sustainable development. Special attention is paid to the problem of finding new sales markets, building logistics and technological chains of export supplies of hydrocarbons. The article analyzes the options - who can and will be able to replace Russia in the supply of oil and gas to Europe.
