Insécurité urbaine
Urban insecurity includes attacks directed against individuals or their property, and varying degrees of violence. Cities have higher crime rates than non-urban areas. A ditch socio-economic and urban social and physical characteristics create criminal opportunities. Crime is unevenly distributed, forming hotspots due to the environmental characteristics (physical and social) required. The feeling of insecurity is an apprehension of becoming a victim of a crime. It's a subjective assessment, determined by individual factors (e.g. emotional) and social (informational, representational). It is triggered by characteristics environmental factors such as signs of social disorganization, poor surveillance or poor lighting. Crime hotspots don't always match up geographically to hotspots of insecurity.
