Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Scientists Propose Method for More Efficient Resource Use in Machine Learning
An international group of researchers, including mathematicians from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, has provided a theoretical justification for a simple and computationally efficient method of estimating uncertainty in Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The paper has been published on the scientific preprint server arXiv.org and presented at AISTATS 2026.

Apposition (Appositional Constructions)
Natalia N. Logvinova, , in: Encyclopedia of Slavic Languages and Linguistics Online.: Brill, 2025. Ch. 11.
Two types of appositional phrases are distinguished in Slavic languages: close and loose. With close constructions, the issues of syntactic headedness and optional case concord between the parts are discussed. Loose appositions are functionally different from close appositions, having a role comparable to secondary predication. ...

Negative concord in fragments: Reexamining the evidence against the negativity of negation markers
Rudnev P., Glossa: a journal of general linguistics 2024 Vol. 9 No. 1 P. 1–21
I argue that particular restrictions on the recoverability of elided negation in fragment answers in negative-concord languages follow from the semantics of questions. Drawing parallels with other ellipsis phenomena, I also highlight the role of Agree in making certain elided heads recoverable. This invalidates a major argument against the analysis of negative-concord items as universal ...

The many facets of agreement
Caha P., Kasenov D., Starke M. et al., Muenchen: Lincom Europa, 2023.
Agreement is a phenomenon that spans multiple areas of linguistic theorizing. On the one hand, agreement has been regarded as purely syntactic/morphological phenomenon because it has no clear contribution to meaning. However, this clashes with the observation that agreement may also influence interpretation in subtle ways, allowing languages to express nuances in meaning that would ...

Logvinova N., Рема 2022 № 2 С. 67–85
The present paper discusses the syntactic statuses of the core argumentsin  the  predicative possessive construction in  Neo-Aramaic Urmi dialect. The study analyses a diachronic hypothesis which states that the possessee is  an  “old” subject which has grammaticalized as  direct object, while the previously topical possessor is a “new” subject. The syntactic properties of both arguments are considered based on the eleven criteria for subjecthood proposed in  (Keenan, 1976). ...
