Theoretical and Methodological Substantiation of Boundaries and Integrity in Landscape Cover and Its Components

Four main models of the appearance of boundaries (in a particular case, integrity), arising from the theory of nonlinear dynamic systems, are considered briefly. On the basis of Kotelnikov’s fundamental sampling theorem and, accordingly, general information theory, the character of a distinguished boundary as a function of the sampling frequency in a spatial series with a regular step is investigated and the measurement unit “berg” (one full oscillation per one kilometer) is introduced, which is essentially identical to the unit “hertz” for a time series. The main provisions are illustrated using the analysis of the properties of real biogeocenoses and multispectral measurements of solar radiation reflection by the SPOT 6 satellite.

On July 29, 2025, a strong earthquake near Kamchatka (Russia) generated a tsunami that spread across the entire
Pacific Ocean. The tsunami had its strongest impact on the coast of the North Kuril Islands (Paramushir and Shumshu), causing significant destruction. During the first days after the earthquake, a field survey of tsunami traces on these islands was conducted in the area ...

Meditation offers a naturalistic paradigm for studying introspection, yet the neural dynamics of advanced tantric practices remain largely unexplored. Buddhist Highest Yoga Tantra (BHYT) comprises a sequence of eight dissolution stages culminating in the “clear light” state. We recorded EEG during eyes-closed BHYT meditation performed in monasteries and hermitages (51 sessions from 36 male practitioners; ...

An observed 20-30% increase in forest net ecosystem exchange (NEE) on partly cloudy days is often attributed to there being more uniform canopy illumination by diffuse radiation when clouds are present. However, the sky on such days is typically populated by fair-weather cumulus clouds, bringing dynamically changing shadow-to-light conditions on the order of minutes to ...

The carried-out microfield model research was aimed at identifying patterns in the dynamics of soil CO2 effluxes depending on the locally occurring hydrothermal regimes of regenerated lawn ecosystems on peat-sand substrates with different peat contents. Monitoring was carried out every ten days from 21 April 2019 to 30 October 2019 and included measurements of soil ...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency following response (FFR) for the analysis of the intact perception of syllables in humans. For this purpose, event-related potentials (ERPs) in response to isolated Russian syllables were recorded and analyzed in 29 healthy persons in two frequency ranges, standard (1-40 Hz) and high frequency (70-150 ...

Imagining a cosmic future touches on many topics — but typically avoids the topic of death, burial, and attitudes toward deceased ancestors. Most of these developments concern life-support systems. This article analyzes the debate between American anthropologist Elizabeth Povinelli and Russian cosmists. The subject of this debate is immortality and attitudes toward ancestors in the ...

The double-stranded RNA editing enzyme ADAR1 connects two forms of genetic programming, one based on codons and the other on flipons. ADAR1 recodes codons in pre-mRNA by deaminating adenosine to form inosine, which is translated as guanosine. ADAR1 also plays essential roles in the immune defense against viruses and cancers by recognizing left-handed Z-DNA and ...

Drosophila homeotic gene Abdominal-B (Abd-B) is controlled throughout development by four infraabdominal (iab) regulatory domains, the active or repressed state of which is determined by initiators that have parasegment-specific enhancer activity at an early stage of embryonic development. For this reason, it has long been assumed that the enhancer activity and initiation function of these elements are synonymous. ...

The specification of abdominal segments A5 to A9 depends on the expression of Abdominal-B (Abd-B), which is regulated by four infraabdominal domains: iab-5 through iab-8,9. Each iab domain contains an initiation element that determines its active state, along with enhancers responsible for tissue-specific activation of Abd-B. These iab domains function autonomously due to their flanking boundaries, Fab-6, Fab-7 and Fab-8, which both block crosstalk between adjacent iab domains (insulator function) and facilitate long-range ...

Background/Objectives: Transcriptional promoters play an essential role in regulating protein expression. Promoters with weak activity generally lead to low levels of expression, resulting in fewer proteins being produced. At the same time, strong promoters are commonly used in studies using transgenic organisms as model systems. This approach can have various negative consequences for the organism, ...

Large language models (LLMs) in genomics have successfully predicted various functional genomic elements. While their performance is typically evaluated using genomic benchmark datasets, it remains unclear which LLM is best suited for specific downstream tasks, particularly for generating whole-genome annotations. Modern representation learning increasingly relies on unsu-pervised and self-supervised methods trained on large-scale unlabeled data. While these approaches achieve impressive generalization across tasks and domains, evaluating embedding quality without labels remains an open challenge. In this work, we propose Persistence, a topology-aware metric based on persistent homology that quantifies the geomet-ric structure and topological richness ...

Although Brachiopoda represent a relatively small phylum, they exhibit significant morphological diversity. One of the central issues in understanding the evolution of the ancestral brachiopod body plan pertains to the homologies among body compartments across the different brachiopod subphyla: Craniiformea, Linguliformea, and Rhynchonelliformea. In this context, the pedicle stands out as one of the most ...
