Resource Race and Green Transition: Three Unexpected Conclusions from Foresight Centres Research on Climate and Poverty
Beneath the surface of green energy—which most people associate with solar panels, electric vehicles, and reduced CO2 emissions—lies a complex web of geopolitical interests, international inequality, and resource constraints. Researchers from the Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies (LST) at the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre have published a series of articles in leading international journals on hidden and overt conflicts surrounding critically important metals and minerals, as well as related processes in the energy sector.

Immersion in Second Language Environment Influences Bilinguals Perception of Emotions
Researchers at the Cognitive Health and Intelligence Centre at the HSE Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have discovered how bilingual individuals process emotional words in their native (first) and non-native (second) languages. It was found that the link between word meaning and bodily sensations is weaker in a second language than in a first language. However, the more a person is immersed in a language environment, the smaller this difference becomes. The article has been published in Language, Cognition and Neuroscience.

Editor-in-chief: В. В. Седов

The fourth issue of Architectural Archaeology consists of articles united by a common theme: the history of the Novgorod Yuryev Monastery and its main sanctuary, the Cathedral of St. George. Here are collected publications and researches, devoted to archeology, history, monuments of art and architectural monuments of this most ancient Russian cloister. St. George's Cathedral turned 900 years old in 2019. This majestic temple was laid in 1119 at the request of Novgorod Prince Vsevolod (Gavriil) Mstislavich with the direct participation of the abbot of the Yuryev monastery Kiriak. Late chronicles mention the name of the master builder, Peter. St. George's Cathedral in 1120-1130s was decorated with frescos, icons and liturgical utensils. Later the cathedral was several times rebuilt and refurbished, but on the whole it is very well preserved. At different times this monument was studied by outstanding scientists: M.K. Karger, A.I. Nekrasov, M.A. Ilyin, N.I. Brunov, A.I. Komech, V.A. Bulkin, V.D. Sarabyanov. Its restoration was done by L.M. Shulyak and G.M. Stender. Since 2013 the Novgorod Architectural and Archaeological team of the Institute of the Academy of Sciences has been working inside and around the cathedral. The new excavations gave a significant increase of our knowledge about the architecture, construction features, details of the structure, the monumental painting of the cathedral and its necropolis, and put it in the archaeological and historical context of the 12th century. The thousands of found fragments of the original paintings have preserved not only the faces and clothing, but also graffiti inscriptions, which have provided new historical and linguistic information.

В., Vox Medii Aevi 2025 Т. 1 (12) С. 13–36
